WarPuppy has introduced a new game publisher to our list of manufacturers, the Canadian company Valley Games Inc. These guys started out a games store owners who over time decided they could do something for the games community by publishing new and reprint popular titles. They have some old classics in their lines, which I am sure a few you 'seasoned' gamers (like Adam and I) would remember. Keep an eye out on the website as we'll be expanding our Valley Games range over time.
The first addition is from Valley Games Tactics Line, which they describe as their heavier wargames titles:
Hannibal: Rome vs Carthage
One of the greatest military commanders and tacticians in history descends on the Roman Empire once again. Do you face him as Rome and try to ward the invasion that comes from the North, or do you climb atop your war elephant and show Rome you will take that which they hold most dear: their territory.
This board game is a reprint of an old classic (I think first released in 1996) that has been previously published under the likes of Avalon Hill, Descartes Editeur, Phalanx Games Deutschland, Smart Ltd and Wargames Club Publishing. More recently the game has been awarded the 2008 Golden Geek Best 2-Player Board Game and 2008 Golden Geek Best Wargame from Board Game Geek.
In this boardgame you get to re-enact the struggle between Carthage's Hannibal and the Roman Republic in approximately 200 BC. The game uses a popular card system first used by Avalon Hill in which players use strategic cards for moving generals, levying new forces, pressing political control of provinces engaged in the war and generating historical events. Other cards are used when the battle is engaged to determine a victor. Players will need to use both military and political force to achieve victory.
The new design has all new artwork from Kurt Miller. Hanniball: Rome vs Carthage is a 2-player game, taking about 150 minutes to play and recommended for players aged 12+.
The second addition is from Valley Games Classic Line, which contains old reprinted titles:
Titan
Titan the monster slug-a-thon is back! And it has brought along a few hundred of its friends!
A reprint of the 1980 classic from Avalon Hill and previously seen published under Gorgonstar Publications and Heidelberger Spieleverlag. In the good ol' days of gaming Titan was nominated in 1980 Charles S. Roberts Best Initial Release and then in 1982 for Charles S. Roberts Best Fantasy Board Game.
Titan is a boardgame in which players take the role of a Titan roaming the board attempting to recruit bigger and badder monsters to fight for their legions. Of course your opponents are also seeking the clash of battle, and there can be only one true Titan!
Titan is played on a main gameboard, where armies are recruited, and positions set. When two armies meet, the action transfers to a battleboard, where the opposing forces battle for position and power. Only the strongest monsters will survive, bringing both points and glory to their Titan.
All new artwork has been contributed by Kurt Miller and Mike Doyle for this reprint. The game takes somewhere around 2 to 4 hours to play (so great for those rainy days), is for 2 to 6 players aged 12+.
Till next time,
Mick
