If you're like me, the menial task of base coating minis black before you start painting proper is about as interesting as something that's not.
But sadly, it's also necessary. Whipping out the spray can is not what I am talking about. I don't mind recklessly covering black spray over everying within 3 feet of my minis. What I am taking about is going over the mini with a brush to cover the bits the spray misses. If you're painting a whole army, this is a massive job and one that I what to get done as quickly as possible.
So here is a little tip that I pick up from WarPuppy's resident painter extraordinaire, Adam. I grab my Derivan MiNiS Black, squirt a bit into my paint pallet and mix in some black ink to a ratio of 3 parts paint to 1 part ink. Then I put a drop or two of Derivan MiNiS Ink Medium in to thin down the mix a little more whilst still retaining it's colour and opacity. This thins the paint without making it look watery.Best of all I find this magic wash covers well and speeds up the process of getting the horrid job of preparing your models.
Cheers,
Mick
