There is a Greek legend that tells of an island at the top of the world, surrounded by a vast frozen sea. The island is ringed by a wall of mountains, impossibly tall, whose peaks are a jagged wasteland of snow and ice. These frozen peaks are the birthplace of the North Wind, the source of all the winds in the world. From the gentle breezes that cool the warm days of summer to the steady winds that fill the sails of ocean going vessels. The island from whence these winds blow is known as Ultima Thule, the Land of Farthest North. The mythic land that lies beyond the mountains is called Hyperborea, the Land Beyond the North Wind."
Hyperborea, the land of the Old Gods... Hyperborea is said to be the place where the magical powers of the world are the most pure and potent. Hidden within the mountains, it is a wide and temperate land that defies the terrible northern cold. To many it would seem a paradise, with warm rivers abundant with fish flowing through the hills, and deep forests alive with birds and animals. While the days are long and sunblessed, the nights are dark and longer. When the sun finally sets, another world awakens; nightmare creatures crawl the through the rising mists and the nights sky comes alive with displays of magical power, raw energy that dances and swirls amoungst the stars.
Residing here are the Sorcerer Priests of Hyperborea, cruel and power hungry men who have made dark pacts with the Old Gods... They bow to no Harbingers command; they serve no godling''s cause. Indeed some wield a power equal to that of any Harbinger or Demigod, but with this otherworldly power comes corruption and madness.
